Privacy & security
Draft: this page is being reviewed by a lawyer before launch.
How we keep your ring a secret, in plain English first. The legal notice follows.
How we keep your secret
Only the people you name can see your ring. To see it, they search for your email, sign in and enter a code we send to the email you listed for them. Remove someone and they lose access straight away.
Anyone with your email can see that you've saved a ring. But never what's in it, your name or who you've chosen. Only the people you name can open it, with a code we send them.
Partners are never notified. Not when you add them, and not if they already have an account. Friends and family get an email only if you switch it on.
You're never told who has looked. We never tell you whether, when or by whom your ring was opened. Insiders never see each other either.
Our emails never carry your ring. No ring details and no link to your ring, ever. The email with an unlock code doesn't even name you.
No passwords. You sign in with Google or a 6-digit code we email you. Codes expire after 10 minutes, work once, and are never stored in readable form.
Delete it all, any time, in one step. Deleting your account in Settings removes your ring, your insider list and every unlock of your ring. Your insiders lose access at once.
What we collect and why

| Your name | Your insiders see it, so they know whose ring they're looking at. | Required |
| Contact number | It helps a better match in future. We don't use it for matching yet. | Optional |
| Country | To understand who uses the service and improve it. | Optional |
| City | To understand who uses the service and improve it. | Optional |
| Age range | To understand who uses the service and improve it. | Optional |
| Gender | To understand who uses the service and improve it. | Optional |
| Your ring: preferences, notes and links | To show your ring to the people you choose. Skip anything you like. | Optional |
| Your insiders: name, relationship and email | To decide who may open your ring, and to email a friend or family member if you switch that on. Their phone number is optional and isn't used for matching yet. | Required |
| Activity log | A record of actions such as signing in, saving and unlocking, to keep the service secure and understand how it's used. It never holds your ring details, codes or the emails you type. We keep it for 2 years. | Automatic |
We never sell or share anything that identifies you, your ring, or the people you've chosen.
In future we may sell anonymised, aggregated data that can't identify anyone.

What we use your data for
To run the service you asked for: signing you in, saving your ring, and letting only the people you choose open it. To keep it secure. To understand who uses it and improve it.
[Lawful basis for each use to be confirmed in legal review.]
[How we anonymise data, including protection against re-identification from combinations like city, age range and an unusual ring, is to be confirmed in legal review.]
Who helps us run it
Your data is hosted in or near London. These providers process it on our behalf:
[International transfer safeguards to be confirmed in legal review.]
- Vercel: hosting the website and app.
- Neon: our database.
- Resend: sending sign-in codes, unlock codes and insider emails.
- Google: only if you choose to sign in with Google.
How long we keep it
- Ring answers you fill in before signing in: only in your browser tab, and only until you sign in or close the tab. We receive them when you sign in to save them.
- Your account, ring and insider list: until you delete your account.
- Sign-in sessions: up to 30 days.
- Codes: 10 minutes, and each works once.
- Activity log: 2 years. If you delete your account, entries about you are anonymised straight away.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask to see, correct or delete your data, or object to how we use it. You can delete your account yourself, at any time, in Settings.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
